LATE MODEL RULES

General: If you are not ready 20 minutes after you are notified your car is being pumped, you are disqualified.

L-1 Information

Freeport Late Model rules have been designed to allow the greatest number of cars to compete at a cost within reason.  We discourage the “win at any cost” attitude and may disqualify a car or team, which exhibits this attitude.  Cars should be kept as straight and freshly painted as possible.  Drivers must wear fireproof uniforms and the conduct of drivers and crew should be professional at all times.  Read the general rules as they pertain to everyone.

L-2 Body

a.      All body parts, including hoods, trunk lids, fenders, etc., must be in place at all times unless damaged during the current program.  Any loose material (chrome, trim, excess seats, etc.) that may be dislodged in the event of an accident must be removed.

b.      Cars must be equipped with a firewall between driver and fuel cell.

c.      Cars must have complete front and back firewalls and floorboards.

d.      Windshields: Three bars are required in window cavity to protect the driver. The bars should be 3/8” minimum.  Right side window cannot be closed off.

e.      Seat belts: 3” safety belts should be installed directly to the frame or roll bar.  Shoulder harness must be used in all cars, and recommended to be a 6-point harness.  A crotch belt is highly recommended.

f.        Helmets: No car will be allowed to run at any time, including warm-ups & qualifying, unless the driver wears an approved type safety helmet.  Full-face shield is highly recommended.

g.      Full size window nets with quick release mechanisms are mandatory for the driver’s window.  Nets that fasten from the top, outside the cage recommended.  It is mandatory that the outside of the car be marked in some way to indicate whether the net opens from the top or bottom.

h.     If you don’t meet weight you are disqualified and all points & money for that race will be forfeited.

 

 

L-3 Bumpers

Absolutely no bracing may show.  Some part of the bumper must be 18” from the ground at all Four Corners.  No sharp or ragged edges.  Bumpers required.

L-4 Carburetors

a.      Any Carburetor allowed.

b.      Air cleaners required.  Maximum 2” spacer allowed.  Intake plenum height 6” including spacer.

c.      All air must enter through carburetor venturi only.

d.      All air cleaners are required to have a complete metal top and bottom.

L-5 Drive shafts

a.      All drive shafts & weights must be painted and kept white

b.      All must have a safety loop located approximately 18” from the front of the drive shaft.

 

 

L-6 Driver’s Equipment

a.      Five point competition safety belt, sub belt, shoulder harness are required.  Belts should be three inches wide.

b.      Flame resistant fire suit required.  (May be either a one or two piece design) Nomex flame resistant gloves and shoes are recommended.

c.      Helmets are mandatory; they must have full Snell type coverage and meet all Snell standards.  Helmets must be worn at all times while on the track.

d.      ALL cars must have window nets.

L-7 Electrical

Battery must not be located in driver’s compartment.  .

L-8 Engines (A)

a.      Any American made automotive engine is allowed.  A V-8 or six-cylinder design may be used in cars with a wheelbase of 103” or longer.

b.      Safety shield or approved shatter shield, or approved blanket is mandatory for housing.

c.      No Fuel injection, supercharging, turbo-charging, or nitrous oxide is permitted.  Aluminum intakes permitted.  Aluminum cylinder heads are permitted.

d.      Engine setback: The number one plug must be no further back than 6 (six) inches from a straight line between the two upper ball joints.

e.      Basic minimum weight car running 364 CI or less will weigh 2300 with driver.  Anyone running more than 364 CI will weigh 2350

f.        All cars must have mufflers & turndowns. Must meet maximum noise level of 98 DPA at 100 feet.

L-8 Spec Motors (B)

            a.   364 Cubic inch maximum.

            b.   Only approved Brodix heads Chevy # SPCH, Ford # SPFO , Dodge # SPMO, as cast must fit templates.

            c.    No titanium parts except for valve spring retainers and intake valves.

            d.    Cast iron block only. Any carburetor, any Edelbrock Victor series manifold. 8" engine set back.

            e.    12" x 72" inch rear spoiler. 24" long x 12" high tapered 6" tall at front Spoiler braces allowed. Left front                                  spill board 6" high x 36  maximum.
            f.   2250 pounds after race with driver. Carburetor air dams permitted

L-9 fuel systems

 

a.      No electric fuel pumps.

b.      100% pure gasoline only.

c.      Fuel cells must be in the trunk.  There must be a firewall between the driver & the gas tank.  No pressurized fuel systems allowed.  High-pressure housing or metal tube gas line must be used up to engine compartment.  Fuel cells must be fully enclosed in a steel case with an anti-spill vent. Fuel cell may not be lower than the bottom of the rear end.  All cars must have fuel cell guard that is separate from the fuel cell & be made of at least 1” tubing.  Fuel cell guard must come to the bottom of the fuel cell. 

d.      Fire extinguisher: a dry chemical or on board extinguisher system is required in all cars.  Must be within easy reach of the driver (B, C, and Type).

L-10 Radiator

Only one radiator allowed.  Must be in stock position.  No radiators in back of car.  Radiators must have liquid overflow that can be mounted forward of engine firewall.

L-11 Rear Ends

Quick change rear-ends are allowed.

L-12 Roll Cages

a.      Roll cage is compulsory. Roll cage must be security fastened to the frame.  Full roll cages & roll bars must be above the driver’s helmet.

b.     Must consist of a configuration of front and rear hoops connected by side tubing or hoops.  The driver’s head must not protrude beyond the cage with his helmet on while being strapped in the seat.

c.      Foam rubber padding is required in all areas of possible driver contact.

d.      Roll cages must have a minimum of 3 bars across the driver’s door.

L-13 Seats

Factory manufactured racing seats either Aluminum or Composite.

L-14 Spoiler

a.      No spoiler shall exceed 8”in height-not measured off the deck, but rather in physical size-and shall not exceed 72” in width.

b.      Side fins no higher than 8 inches.

L-15 Suspension

a.      Coil overs are allowed.

b.      Cars must have brakes on all four wheels

c.      Coil or leaf spring allowed.

d.      Birdcage, swing arm and all floating rear ends are allowed.

L-16 Transmission and Clutches

a.      A Bert, Brinn, or falcon or triple disk clutch allowed.  Scatter shield, Quartermaster, Tilton, or similar bell housing required.

b.      All transmissions must have at least two gears forward and one gear reverse, plus neutral position.  Must be able to put car in and out of gear w/ car running.

L-17 Weight

a.      Read rule (e) under engines

L-18 Wheels and Tires

a.      Tires cannot be softened. 

b.      Bead-lock allowed on all four.

c.      Steel or Aluminum wheels permitted.  Plastic wheels are not permitted.

d.      14” wheels allowed.

e.      Hoosier 11.0 88, 90, 92-15 specs WRS D-55 stamped LBS tire.

f.        Tires may be sipe or grooved.

 

The pit steward and/ or other Officials in their discretion will rule upon items or situations not covered by the rules of Freeport Raceway Park.
