M-1 Batteries

a.    Battery must not be located in driver’s compartment.

M-2 Body and Chassis

a.      Any U.S. manufactured passenger car 1970 to date will be legal.  Body must be stock appearing.  No trucks or four- wheel drive vehicle body or frames allowed.

b.      Must use steel, fiberglass, or aluminum full size roof.  Original roofline must be maintained with a maximum 1” drop rear to front.  Stock appearing front windshield and rear window support unit (painted roll bars not an acceptable substitute).

c.      Firewall and floorboards are mandatory.

d.      Engine compartment must remain open with no side panels.  Hood sides may have a maximum 4”drop and must be enclosed at the rear of the hood.  Bodies should extend no further forward than the back of the block.

e.      Spoiler height is 5 inches, side fins no higher than 5 inches.

f.        Frames must not be widened or narrowed and must be able to support roll cage on both sides. Frames must be full and complete on both sides.  Front cross member may be notched for radiator clearance only.  Minimum frame and body height is 4”from the ground.

g.      Minimum wheelbase is 108”.

h.      Full size window nets with quick release mechanism are required.

M-3 Brakes

a.      Must have operating brakes on all four wheels.

b.      Brake master cylinder may be changed to racing type.  Must have separate fluid chambers for front and rear.

c.      Calipers cannot be lightened and must remain an OEM part.

M-4 Bumpers

a.      Both front and rear bumpers must be used.  Front bumpers must be mounted frame end to frame end with the bottom loop parallel to the ground.  Bumpers must be made of a minimum 1 ¼ inch pipe and must be able to support the car’s weight if it is lifted by a wrecker.

b.      Rear bumpers, nerf bars, and bodies must not extend beyond the width of the tires and they must not contain sharp edges.

c.      Center of front and rear bumpers must be 18” plus or minus 2” from the ground.

d.      The rear bumper must be designed in a manner to protect the fuel cell.

M-5 Carburetor

a.      One, two, or four- barrel carburetor permitted.

b.      No nitrous oxide, supercharging, or fuel injection.

c.      Air must enter through carburetor venturi only

d.      All air cleaners are required to have a complete metal top and bottom.

M-6 Driver’s Equipment

a.      Five point competition safety belt, sub belt, shoulder harness are required.  Belts should be three inches wide.

b.      Flame resistant fire suit required; fire suit may be either one or two-piece design. 

c.      Helmets are mandatory; they must have full Snell type coverage and meet all Snell standards.

d.      Factory manufactured racing seats either Aluminum or Composite required.

M-7 Drive shaft

a.      No aluminum drive shafts.

b.      All drive shafts and weights must be painted and kept white.

c.      Must have a drive shaft loop 12”behind front U-joint.

M-8 Engines and Transmissions

a.      Any American make engine may be used as long as rear of engine (bell housing flange) is mounted as least 72” forward from the center of rear axle. Engine offset 2” must be kept within the stub. Engine height minimum 11” from the ground to front and center of crankshaft. All engines used in competition must be able to be used in

b.      conventional passenger car without alterations. Motor mounts can not be removed or altered. No aluminum engine blocks. 

c.      No dry sump systems.  MSD is O.K.

d.      Headers allowed.  Exhaust must be mounted in such a manner as to prevent fumes from entering passenger compartment.

e.      No couplers and no dog clutches are allowed.

f.        Engine kill switch must be located within easy reach of driver.  Must be clearly marked on and off.

g.      OEM ignitions: points or HEI style only no magnetos or distributor less ignitions.  MSD allowed.

h.      All transmissions must have at least two gears forward and one gear reverse, plus neutral position must be able to put car in and out of gear w/ car running.

i.        Must weight 2400lbs with driver after race.

j.        All cars must have mufflers & turndowns. Must meet maximum noise level of 98 DPA at 100 feet.

 

 

M-9 Engine Claim Rule

a.      There is a $1000.00-plus motor claim with $25.00 going to the wrecker.

b.      The claimer must have participated in at least 50% of the events at FRP (this does not apply to special races).

c.      The top four finishers in the feature are subject to a claim by finishers 5th on back running on the lead lap.  If more than one driver wants to claim the same engine, the driver running more competitively at the end of the race has the first option.

d.      Driver must have cash, and the claim must be made from the car.  When the track is clear there will be no more claims.

e.      Engine must be removed from the car at the track or some agreed upon location by the original owner under the direction of a racing official.  Any sabotage to the claimed engine will result in the saboteur being banned from further competition at the track for the remainder of the season.

f.        Only the basic engine will be claimed.  This does not include the carburetor, distributor, plug wires, fuel pump, water pump, all sending units and pulleys, flywheel, bell housing, exhaust manifolds, and motor mounts.

g.      No driver may claim more than once in a season.

h.      The first sell, no sell, or exchange is final and binding.

i.        If driver being claimed wishes to exchange and the buyer refuses, the buyer will be considered under the same rules as someone not accepting the claim.

j.        If someone refuses to sell their engine, they forfeit all winnings and points for that night.  Driver refusing to sell will be subject to a $50.00 fine, and the driver will not be allowed to race the remainder of the season until the fine is paid.  Points from that driver’s previous week of competition are also forfeited.  No buying back of points or any adjustment at a later time.  Any driver refusing a claim also forfeits his right to claim for the remainder of the year.

k.      Any driver using any device which is intended to deceive other drivers, including but not limited to, a device to squirt oil into or onto the engine to give and outward impression of a “blown” engine will forfeit all winnings and points for that night.  Driver will be subject to a fine equal to the amount of prize money forfeited.  The driver will not be allowed to race the remainder of the season until fine is paid.

l.        Motor must be run the next week.

m.   No cross changing of motor; i.e.: Chevy cannot claim Ford.

M-10 Engine Claim by Promoter

The promoter may claim any motor for $750.00, without a swap.  This is suppose to be an inexpensive fun class!  If you want to go faster or spend a lot of money, then build a late model!

M-11 Front Suspension

a.      Lower control arms can be OEM or after-market. Bottom A frame cannot be moved or altered. 

b.      Upper A frames of tube-type allowed and can be moved.

c.      Spindles and hubs must be stock.

d.      Steering box must be OEM and in stock location.  Must remain within original bold pattern for type of frame used. 

e.      No rack and pinion allowed.

f.        In the cockpit the steering may be modified to suit the driver’s taste, however, it must be kept to the left side of cockpit.  No center steering.

g.      No coil over on front.

h.      No Aluminum Shocks

M-12 Fuel and Cooling Systems

a.      No electric fuel pumps.

b.      Fuel cells mandatory with anti- spill valve.

Fuel cells must be in the trunk.  There must be a firewall between the driver and the gas tank.  No pressurized fuel systems allowed.  High-pressure housing or metal tube gas line must be used up to engine compartment.  Fuel cells must be fully enclosed in a steel case with an anti-spill vent.  Fuel cell may not be lower than the bottom of the rear end.  All cars must have fuel cell guard that is separate from the fuel cell and be made of at least 1”tubing.  Fuel cell guard must come to the bottom of the fuel cell.

d.  Fire extinguisher-a dry chemical or on board extinguisher system is required in all cars.  Must be within   easy reach of the driver (B, C, Type).

e.  Gasoline or alcohol or E85 only.

f.   Radiator may be protected, but must remain in stock location.

g.  Aluminum radiators allowed.

 

M-13 Rear End

a.      Any passenger car type or truck type rear end may be used.

b.      Quick- change devices allowed. Aluminum center section, Steel Tubes.

c.      Aluminum lower blocks, axle caps and drive plates allowed.

d.      No aluminum shocks.

M-14 Roll Cage

a.      Must consist of continuous hoops.

b.      Must be frame mounted in at least six (6) places.  Roll cage must be securely supported and braced.

c.      Must consist of a configuration of front and rear hoops connected by side tubing or hoops.  The driver’s head must not protrude beyond the cage with his helmet on while being strapped in the seat.

d.      Protection of feet is mandatory.  A bar across the back of engine with vertical bars and rubs rails or similar protection is recommended.

e.      Low carbon, mild steel tubing is recommended for roll cage.  No brazing or soldering is permitted.

f.        No brace bars forward of the cage may be above the stock hood height.

g.      All corners and right angles must be gusted.

h.      Foam rubber padding is required in all areas of possible driver contact.

i.        Roll cages must have a minimum of 3 bars across the driver’s door.

M-15 Tires and Wheels

a.      Maximum width will be 9”and the tire is to be mounted on a conventional 8”wheel.

b.      Maximum overall width (front or rear) shall not exceed 78” from outside of tread to outside of tread.

c.      Hoosier Super chain link tire 26.5 or 27.5/8.0 15 SCL or G60 Hoosiers mounted on a steel wheel with a maximum width of 8”. Bead lock devises allowed on right rear only. Only foam wheel covers or bead lock/ mud plug combinations will be permitted.  A40 hardness REQUIRED all four corners.
